Aegis Authenticator: what it is and how to use it
Aegis Authenticator is an open-source, Android-only app that stores your 2FA tokens (the 6-digit code that changes every 30 seconds). That code does not go through your carrier, so it is not affected by SIM swap.

How do you use Aegis Authenticator?
- Install Aegis from the official site, getaegis.app, or the official Android store, checking the developer name.
- Create the password-protected vault and, if you like, turn on biometric unlock.
- When enabling 2FA on an account, choose the authenticator-app option and scan the QR code with Aegis; prefer this over SMS.
- Make an encrypted backup of the vault and keep it off the phone.
- For critical accounts (email, password manager, exchange), keep the 2FA in a different place from the passwords.
What are the limits and cautions?
- It exists only for Android. Without an encrypted backup kept off the phone, changing devices can cost you access to your accounts.
- If the same vault stores both the password and the code for a critical account, whoever opens it has both; keep 2FA separate from passwords.
