Ente Auth: what it is and how to use it
Ente Auth is an open-source authenticator with end-to-end encrypted backups and sync across devices, for Android, iOS, macOS, Windows, Linux and Web. It stores your app-based 2FA, instead of SMS, for your accounts.

How do you use Ente Auth?
- Open ente.io/auth, typing the address, and download the app for your system; on a phone, use the official store.
- Decide whether to use it with an account and sync, or offline with no account, which the site says is possible.
- If you create an account, use an email from the right identity (for your crypto identity, an alias or private email) and a strong password.
- When enabling 2FA on a service, choose authenticator app and scan the QR code with Ente Auth.
- For critical accounts, keep the 2FA in a different place from the passwords.
What are the limits and cautions?
- If you turn on sync, the backup lives in the cloud (encrypted), and security depends on that account's password.
- If the same vault stores both the password and the code for a critical account, whoever opens it has both; keep 2FA separate from passwords.
