Blockstream Jade: what it is and how to use it
Jade is a Blockstream hardware wallet focused on Bitcoin and Liquid, at a lower cost than most. It keeps keys off your computer, and the book records no relevant incident for it in 2026.

How do you use Blockstream Jade?
- Buy from Blockstream's official site, typed by hand; avoid marketplaces, resellers and used devices.
- Reject any unit that ships with a pre-filled seed or recovery card.
- Choose "create new wallet" and let the device generate the words itself; never use a ready-made seed someone gave you.
- Write the words by hand, numbered and in order, on paper; for the long term, engrave them in metal.
- Confirm the backup on the device, and never photograph the seed, type it into a website or store it in the cloud.
- Test recovery with a small amount before moving anything significant.
- Set a strong PIN and use Jade as the signer, spending through a software wallet such as Sparrow with coin control.
What are the limits and cautions?
- "No relevant incident" only reflects the research done for the edition (Oct 2026); it is not a guarantee. Check Blockstream's security advisories.
- The book presents hardware wallets as a table, not a ranking, and none is perfect.
